The Music & the Guitar Basics

Those who are interested in music and want to learn how to play the guitar should first of all familiarize themselves with all the basics of the guitar such as the different types of the guitar, the different parts of the guitar and the particular function of each of these parts.

Basically there are only two types of guitar namely acoustic guitar and electric guitar. The acoustic guitars were built by the guitar makers to play them without any amplification, whereas the sounds produced by the electric guitars need to be amplified so that they can be heard well by the listeners. In spite of these differences, the same techniques are used to play both these types of guitars.

There are in all 6 strings on the guitar. The first string is the thinnest of all while the last string i.e. the 6th string is the thickest. The standard tuning for the guitar is set starting from the 6th to the first string. This tuning is named as E-A-D-G-B-E. The frets are numbered starting from the headstock toward the body with the first numbered as 1. The symbol 0 or O is used to denote the open string which is also the string that does not require fretting. Guitarists play the guitar by moving up or down horizontally along the fret-board. They can also move vertically across the fret-board.
